What does it mean to be all grown up? We've heard this phrase millions of times, and we're in constant encouragement of it. In today's society, success is marked by independence. Once we move out of the parent's house, get a stable job, and are completely self-reliant, we are then able to call ourselves all grown up. This maturity is coming from the world's point of view. But in the Kingdom of God, this just isn't the case. In fact, it's the complete opposite! The more we rely and depend on God for everything, the more grown up we are. This is key to maturing in Christ. The world looks down upon adults who live with their parents, but God's house is the one place that I desire to reside in! He's my heavenly father, and he delights in taking care of me. The more I depend on him, the more I trust him. The more I trust him, the more I know him. The more I know him, the more I become like him. Being a Christ follower simply means to be like Christ. And the only way to achieve that, is by taking the first step: learning to depend on him. Whether it be big or small, God's in control of all situations. Once we learn to rely on God, we can then trust him in both the good times and the bad. Trusting God creates relationship. After the relationship is established, we start to know God for who he is. As we spend time with God in daily devotion, we receive his impartation which then leads us to become like him. This is the process of maturity. Ultimately, we grow up when we realize that God is all we need.
