This I Believe

I wrote this for my English class, and I thought I'd share it with you!

I believe in divine purpose. My life is not a coincidence, but a vessel to be used for change. There is a God; he’s very much alive. If not, my life would be very much over. Life in pursuit of God is not easy, but it is worth it. This I believe.

I find myself in a constant state of amazement. Most people would scoff at this idea of awe, but how can I not be consumed with wonder? God, who formed the cosmos, formed me. In fact, he’s still forming me. I am but mere clay in his skilled hands. My life, both in the valley and on the mountain, is being shaped into a vessel for change. As I fix my eyes and set my heart on God, I will do things I never thought imaginable. Not by my strength, but by the strength I’ve received through the one who made me.

This truth is evident in my life. One area in particular, is in the area of athletics. Excelling in sports is second nature to me. Some say it’s because of hard work. Others say it’s because of luck, but I say it’s because of God. This talent I possess is not for my glory, but for the glory of the one who gave it to me. God has given me a platform.

Over the course of my high school career, I’ve achieved many accomplishments, one being the Varsity Track and Field Team. I began throwing my freshman year, and I quickly fell in love with the sport. I placed first in Districts in both shot put and discus. My sophomore year I progressed to Varsity. I placed third in Districts for my favorite event, discus. This was not easy. I was faced with the best of the best, and the odds weren’t in my favor. But I didn’t rely on my own strength; I trusted God. I then went on to compete in the State Championships, and placed sixteenth out of Idaho’s top throwers. I know that this upcoming season is going to be the best yet!

These achievements I possess are a product of time well spent. As I dedicate my life to follow God with all my heart, everything else will fall into place. Because of my gifting in athletics, I was given an opportunity to speak at a rally known as Fields of Faith. I spoke to over 150 students and shared the story of how God changed my life. I never would have pictured myself in such a position, but God is using me as a vessel for change. My life is not defined by coincidence, but by purpose. This I believe.
