What are the social impacts of using ICT?

Communication- Communication in person is not as common as it used to be. This is because more people are talking to each other using electrical devices. By using electrical devices you can talk to people as if you were actually with them without having to be even in the same country. It is easier to talk to people you would otherwise not see but it is bad when people talk to each other when they live near because you lose social skills from speaking using technology and you aren’t actually with the person so it is not the same.

Mobile phone- An example is mobile phone. People do not need to see each other to be able to tell each other things because they can just phone people up and tell them. This has stopped people having to see each other as much because they don’t really need to. Also when people text each other they are sometimes shortening down words or phrases which could ultimately make people forget how to actually spell words and therefore have lost the use of their English language.

Emails- Another example is emails. Emailing people is easier than arranging to meet up with somebody because you just need to type something that you need to tell the person out and then they look at their computer to see what you have to tell them whereas they would have been waiting to know before. This is also making people lose their ability to spell things because words and phrases are once again shortened down to be able to be said easier than in full.

Social networking- Social networking has really stopped people communicating in person because it is much easier to talk to someone straight away because of instant messaging. Instant messaging is like talking in person without having to see the person. This can also be used to shorten down word or phrases because you are typing everything out and may shorten down them. Shortening down words will affect how educated people are

Employment- ICT has affected employment in many ways, good and bad, some include loss of jobs. This loss of jobs is because computers can start to do the jobs of humans. This means companies can have the same amount of work done without having to pay the robot or computer to do the work. It also helps people gain jobs because it means that in computer based companies there are jobs for people to work the computers and control them
